You may be approved for funding for up to TWO activities per year
not including Educational Leave and the MTS Professional Development Day

SOTA members are allowed to apply for Professional Development opportunities including:
- In-province conferences or workshops - Webinars
- Out of Province conferences - Visitations
- Tuition - Educational Leave
- MTS Professional Development Day - Member Initiated Project
Please note that all applications must include RATIONALE (relevance to teaching and summary of activity) to be considered for funding support.

PD Fund Deadlines
In-Province Activities: Workshops, Conferences, Classroom/Site Visitations, Cooperating Teacher/Teacher Candidate Collaboration, Webinars, and Tuition: The application deadline for In-Province requests is 10 calendar days prior to the start of the activity (including Tuition). ***In-Province activities(including Tuition) occurring in July, August and or September must be submitted on the first school day in June. This year that date is June 3rd, 2024. MTS Professional Development Day: Requests can be made from the first school day in September until 2 weeks following the MTS Professional Development Day. Out-of Province Conferences: The first school day of the month is the application deadline for all Out-of-Province conferences occurring in the next month. ***For conferences occurring in July, August and September; applications due to the Committee on the first school day in June. Member Initiated Project (MIP): November 1st - for December to April grants Educational Leave Deadlines: November 1st for January to June 30th Leaves April 1st for September to January 31st Leaves TUITION
How to apply for tuition as a Professional Development Activity
- ALL Tuition requests must be approved BEFORE a course starts - please see guidelines and deadlines STEP ONE: PD Tuition Leave Request in Employee Connect
STEP TWO: To be submitted ONLY once the course is successfully completed, to Margret Borodenko at the Board Office.
*Must have been pre-approved(step 1) The Tuition Expense Claim Form must be completed for each course you are requesting reimbursement. Attach your tuition receipt and course completion document to this form. |

Applications are now online only!
The online form and any required supporting document(s) must be completed and attached to be considered for funding. Incomplete requests will be denied.
The expense claim form is to be submitted with your INDIVIDUAL conference receipts to Ali at the SOBO within 30 days of your PD Activity.
If you attended an OUT-OF-PROVINCE conference, a conference report must be submitted along with the expense claim form, in order to process your reimbursement (SEE BELOW). Member Initiated
Project The Member Initiated Project (MIP) grant allows individual members or teams of two members, to extend their learning related to their practice and gives them the opportunity to develop and implement resources.
Proposals must be submitted electronically (via email) using the application form provided and will be reviewed on a first-come first-served basis. NO leave request is required to be entered at time of application. Out-of-Province
